Who I am.

Michelle Alford is an artist based in New York City. Her work, largely self-portraits, focuses on questions of fragility, movement, age, gender, and the role of subject.  Each piece manifests a moment that reflects at once the consciousness of the artist, the viewer, and our era as a whole. In this, Alford’s art can be seen as a rumination on strength and vulnerability: How much do we control our own journeys? How much is art itself a means of taking the reins?

Alford works primarily in oils, employing both alla prima and indirect painting styles. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from New York Academy of Art.
